In law school, I worked for a large firm and the United States Government working on issues that were important, especially to our clients, but not inspiring and which did not make me want to wake up in the morning and go back into the office. I wanted to represent real people in court regarding issues that would make a difference in their lives and give purpose to mine. After graduating from law school in 1990, I worked for the Public Defender’s Office in Atlanta, Georgia for three years. I defended indigent citizens accused of felony offenses at trial and on appeal. Within a few years, I represented persons charged with the most serious crimes possible and made routine appearances in Georgia’s Appellate Courts.
Some of my most memorable cases in the Public Defender’s Office involved a partial acquittal based on self-defense for a man accused of two homicides which led to the eventual dismissal of his remaining charges and his release; a dismissal based on double jeopardy for a man accused of burglary and theft; and a dismissal of three homicide charges against an individual who waited three years for the appointed lawyer promised him by the Government long ago.
In 1993, I opened my own office and continued to defend criminal cases and prosecute civil cases in the state and federal trial, and appellate courts. I continued to do so successfully and in 2002, practiced in affiliation with legendary trial lawyer Gerry Spence and the law firm of Spence, Moriarity & Schuster, LLC. In 2004, I became partners with Edward Moriarity and we practiced out of offices in three sStates: Montana, Wyoming and Utah. I represented clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Arizona, Georgia, California, Oregon, New Mexico, Illinois, and Nevada.
After Edward Moriarity passed away, I focused my practice on defending citizens accused of crimes. I have defended complex cases involving charges of RICO, wire fraud, money laundering as well as the most serious charges of murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and sex offenses. Each case is as unique as the individual client who needs representation. Whatever the client and case may require, each of my clients receives an advocate and a defender.
